What Must I Know To Be Saved?
By Pat Kilpatrick

You may have heard someone make the statement, "I don't know enough to become a Christian".  How much does one have to know to be saved and be added to God's church?

First of all, you must know that the source of knowledge that will make you "wise unto salvation" is the holy scriptures (II Timothy 3:15).

In the scriptures you will learn that we are saved by the grace of God, not because we deserve it (Ephesians 2:8, 9).  If we continue in sin, we will receive what we deserve, but if we serve God in righteousness, we will receive the gift of eternal life (Romans  6:23).

You must understand that we are saved through faith (Ephesians 2:8, II Timothy 3:15).  Salvation is impossible without our believing in Jesus as the Son of God (John 3:16-18).  This faith comes from no other source than the word of God (Romans 10:17).

In the scriptures you learn that the Gospel is that Jesus the Christ died for our sin (I Corinthians 15:1-3) as it was written (Isaiah Chapter 53), he was buried, and he was resurrected on the third day (I Corinthians 15:4), also according to the scriptures (Psams 16:10).

Finally, being called by the Gospel (II Thessalonians 2:13, 14), you must know how to respond to the call.  We are crucified with Christ in repentance (Romans 6:6, 7; Galatians 5:24).  We are buried with him in baptism (Romans 6:3. 4), and just as Jesus rose from the dead, we raise up from that watery grave of baptism to "walk in newness of life" (Romans 6:4, 5).  Being baptized into Christ (Galatians 3:27), we are "new creatures" (II Corinthians 5:17).

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.”
Revelation 22:17
