ALGEBRA I

Welcome to the Algebra I page!

Algebra I is a course designed to teach and expand on the basic principles of algebra. Students are encouraged to solve problems using a variety of methods that promote the development of improved communication skills and foster a deeper understanding of the subject matter. To help students appreciate the power of algebra, applications involving real-life situations are incorporated throughout this course. The use of appropriate technology is encouraged. Algebra I will prepare the student to meet the requirements of the Alabama High School Graduation Exam and the textbook contains many opportunities for students to practice for the exam. This course will encompass the following topics: Number and operations, linear functions, slope formula, domain and range of functions, operations on polynomial expressions, factoring of monomials, binomials, and trinomials, solving multistep equations and inequalities, solving equations and inequalities in two variables, solving quadratic equations, calculating length, slope, and midpoint in the Cartesian plane, scatterplots, stem-and-leaf plots and elementary probability.
