Peter Grant lives and works in Huntsville, AL.  He is the former President of the Huntsville Art League for 2005-2006.  Born in St. Petersburg, FL, he grew up in Greenville, SC in the midst of an artistic family.  His brother was a noted architect, and his son and daughter are both working in the fine arts.  Peter took all the art classes he could while obtaining his degree from Clemson University.   A 20-year military career after college put his painting on hold, but allowed him to visit and explore art around the world.  During this time, he delved into photography. From this period, he has a portfolio of beautiful photos capturing scenes and people from many countries.  Following retirement, he has started painting again. Although his specialty is Abstract Expressionism he enjoys bringing some reality to his work with equestrian scenes.  He paints many other subjects including bears, sailboats, and landscapes.  He is an avid horseman and sailor, and can frequently be found during his free time riding his horse "Echo" or sailing on Lake Guntersville in his boat, "Misty Gale."

As well as new concept pieces, Peter also works on commissions and would welcome your ideas to create a personalized piece for you that would truly be one of a kind.  Come by and see Peter at one of the upcoming shows, or call or e-mail him.

Peter paints with acrylics on canvas using a broad brush and bold, bright colors to evoke emotion.  He gives his abstract expressionist paintings surprising life and motion.  He works with a Southwest touch, having been much influenced by visiting galleries in Santa Fe and Taos, NM.  His subjects and techniques have become very popular with his many fans.  Many of his paintings depict horses in motion, although he also does many other subjects, including abstracts, sail boats, bears, fish, and landscapes among others.  His renewed interest and energy in his painting reflects his love of this medium.
