Layton Cemetery, Taney Co., Missouri
This is a private family cemetery located on the Old Layton Homestead originally owned by Thomas Foster Layton. The land has been owned by one of his descendants continually since his death. To reach the cemetery from Hollister take Country Road BB from junction of Business US 65 about 4 miles to Layton Road. Take Layton Road about a mile to the Old Layton Homestead location. Permission should be obtained from the present Layton owners prior to visitation.
The cemetery on June 14, 2001 was extremely overgrown with brush, saplings, and other vegetation. The cemetery is not in use. Several members of the Thomas Foster Layton family are buried here along with some slaves. During June 14th, I was unable to locate gravestones for all the individuals known to be buried there.
The cemetery is on a small rise about 300 yards north by north west of the Old Layton Homestead location. The cemetery is about 50 feet square and is fenced. The picture below was taken from the Old Layton Homestead location and the associated diagram shows the approximate locations of the gravestones visible on June 14th.
