Helping Those In Need
| | Loaf Every Sunday is First United Methodist Church’s program for collecting and delivering loaves of bread to the Salvation Army. Through its homeless and rehabilitation programs, the Salvation Army consumes 200-250 loaves of bread a week. |
| | The goal of Loaf Every Sunday is to satisfy the Salvation Army’s appetite for bread. Participation in the Loaf Every Sunday program is easy. On Sunday, deposit a loaf (or more) of bread in a collection receptacle at the Randolph or Green Street entrances, or the Wesley Center lobby. Volunteers will deliver the bread to the Salvation Army Shelter later that afternoon. |
The Bread of Life
Since 1991, First United Methodist Church has collected loaves of bread for
the local Salvation Army. The bread, and the hot meals that accompany it,
provides nourishment to participants in the Salvation Army’s drug
rehabilitation program, homeless shelter, and mobile soup kitchen.
In addition to physical nourishment, these programs provide Christian
ministry to nourish the soul.
How you Can Help
The Loaf Every Sunday program needs your bread, and lots of it. The program
also provides rewarding opportunities for service. You, your family, or your
organization (e.g., Sunday School Class) can deliver the collected loaves
to the Salvation Army Shelter at 305 Seminole Drive. While there, you can
tour the shelter and see, first-hand, the rehabilitation facilities and
the people they help. You will gain an appreciation for the plight of the
homeless and those struggling with addictions. In this way, the simple task
of delivering loaves of bread can become a valuable and rewarding
educational experience.
