Worship Experiences
- Children are welcome in all our worship services. Special worship
bulletins are provided for them with a simplified service and activity pages.
A special time for the children with the minister is included in every
service. We also provide worship classes at both services during the
sermon for the children to learn more about worship and how to participate
in it.
Midweek Ministries - Classes
for children of all ages are offered during the fall, winter and spring.
Nurseries - First United Methodist
Church provides nurseries for children 0-3 years old at all Worship Services
scheduled. Childcare is also provided for meetings and study groups as
needed and requested for children through 5th grade. An information booklet
is available in the nursery located on 1st floor of the Wesley Center.
Children Choirs - Four childrens
choirs are available at First United Methodist Church. See
Music Ministry for more information.
Playschool and Mother's Morning Out - We offer a weekday program
on a registration basis for children four months through four years
old. Children may be registered for one or more days per week. Classes
have a limited number of participants and two leaders in each group.
A registration fee and monthly tuition are charged. The basic mission
of this program is to help children develop their skills as they are ready
in a supportive and loving environment created by people who love and care

Vacation Bible School
- VBS is a summer event for children, a one week intensive Christian
education event for children 4 years old - 5th grade. VBS affords an
additional opportunity for Bible study, learning, and fun.
Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts - These groups meet
at the church at various times. Call the church office (539-5738) for
contact persons.
Camp Sumatanga -
Our conference camp near Gallant, Alabama, is open to students entering
4th through 6th grades for three days or one week camp experiences each
summer. Programs are offered different weeks to fit individual schedules.
Registration forms are available in the church office beginning early
Spring.
Bibles - Each September,
Bibles are presented to children entering third grade as a gift from the
church.
Children's Sunday - Children
assist with worship service.
Worship
Bags/Worship Bulletins - These items help children worship at their
individual levels of understanding.
Easter
Egg Hunt - Held annually on the Saturday before Easter Sunday. It is
usually held in a local park and features a visit by the Easter Bunny.
Mission - Children participate
in quarterly mission projects through their Sunday School classes. Also
once a year a mission class is offered on Wednesday night at Midweek
Ministries.
Children's 4th and 5th grade
Retreat - A pre-confirmation experience to be held the last
weekend in April. This is an action-packed, content-intensive weekend
led by a team of youth parents and teachers.
