Acer sacharrum (Sugar maple)

Ulmus parviflora (Chinese elm)
Growing Broom Styles
Both of the trees above were cut back from approximately 8-foot trees and drastically root pruned in spring 96.
Note the tremendous ramification achieved in one growing season, by frequent cutting back of new shoots .
The sugar maple has leaves about 3/4 to 1-1/2 inch in the pic, as opposed to its early spring leaf size of 3 inches
or so. I'm eagerly awaiting its fall color.
The chinese elm was just snipped and deleafed again prior to the pic. It's now resprouted once again.
