this looks like a great deal to me. the case appears to be the same one that micron used to use on their systems. these could actually be left over barebones, from micron's duron / tbird systems, since they shut down their consumer line $89.

kt133 board, floppy, PCImodem and case with power supply, kt133, 2 dimms, built in sound. agp slot.

need to use the 15 off 40 or 20 off 100 new user coupon.

to get it over $100, pick up the $19.96 logitech first mouse wheel optical if you want, which i think is good to add to a cheapo system

there is also a $9.99 cheapo 2 button mouse, dont know if that will get it high enough, you'd be a few cents off 100, but maybe shipping is part of the $100

Combine with say a tnt2 16mb pci (saw at fry's for $19), a duron 750 (price watch says $27) and a fan ($8 for like coolermaster) and maybe 128mb of ram for $15 , and you have a nice system. get the 8x philips cdrom at bestbuy for $30 after rebates, and the 30 gig western dig for $50 after rebate, a cheap keyboard and monitor, and you'd have a nice system for around $250 not counting the monitor.

This is an old Micron case...I have to say, after working on them enough I came to like these cases....they are one of the best "little" cases I used. Highly recommend to anyone who doesn't mind ON-BOARD video with no AGP slot.

Slappy400: I'm pretty sure that this system doesn't have built-on video (thankfully). I'm pretty sure that it has an AGP socket (look at the picture), though it is mislabled in the product description ("One HEP 4x/2x slot").

I'm a little confused. What exactly is a HEP 4x/2x slot? is that an agp slot? i mean it kinda looks like it in the pic but i cant really tell.

if it does have the AGP slot, then yes this would be a very hot deal in my book.

256mb ram for like $40
duron 750 for like $35
40gb hard drive for like $110
some kind of smelly gf2mx for like $75

that's like a whole system for like $350. DAMN YOU GUYS!@!!!@@$ now i have to go buy like 4 of those...

Based on the picture, there's no onboard vid(there's just the 1 com port) and an AGP slot. And I assume AGP=HEP.

yeah i really think these are just what was leftover whenmicron closed their consumer business. a lot of companies do this, they just take the logos off and such. i know HP does, my dads company takes the faceplates off, puts on new ones, and reflashes the bioses, on some of them to sell as non-HP machines

Anyone know anything more on the motherboard that's included? Maker, anything? I've gotta guess that it has an AGP port from the picture. I'm trying to throw together a cheap Duron system for a friend as a wedding present, and this looks REAL promising.

Anyone know how many PCI slots there are and are available? What about drive bays? I'm having trouble telling from the picture. If someone buys this and receives it let us know the details!

I think this is the same barebones. Not much additional info. The picture shows a agp slot, but is the picture accurate?.

Oops - ignore that last post of mine - I'm an idiot. 3 PCI slots, one taken up by the modem. 4 bays, one 3.5 taken. one 3.5 free. 2 5.25" free.

Been looking around for info on this (I want to upgrade my wife's system). Here's what I found out so far:

The system is from Andara Technologies and can be purchased from them for $109 (+15 shipping).

The motherboard looks like it is a GVC AR862 (more info about it here).

Andara's web site has the "misprint" HEP slot but the Synmicro desription says AGP.

I tried getting into GVC's web site but it seems to be down.

PS. Looks like the Micron RS2150A Duron 700 uses the same GVC mobo (link)

If the shipping is only $4, that's real good. Anyone who has this can confirm AGP slot?

Im a little rough on my Russian : ), but this site has some info on the GVC AR862 board down at the bottom of the page. Mentions Realtek RTL8139 controller and S3 Savage4. Anyone able to decipher this stuff? Babelfish didn't work well for me...

hans007, thanks, I can't get the 20 off 100 coupon to work on my over $100 order (I "signed up" at techbarxxxxs) but the darn $10 off for new customers appears at checkout and that seems like it keeps the $20 off 100 from working, anyone get this to work? how?

Still thinking about whether to do this or not. Overstock said they have 250+ of them in stock so we should have a little while to do research : ). Found some more info at this site.

Here's the info from the ZDNET review linked above:

GVC AR862

Chipset: VIA KT133 VT8363
CPU: AMD Socket-A mechanism
Memory: 2 DIMM 32/64/128/256/512 MB SDRAM
Video:
Integrated Savage4 2D/3D
Audio: VT82C686A Integrated AC97 Controller, AC97 Codec
UDMA: ATA66 or PIO mode up to mode 4
LAN: Realtek RTL8139 10/100Mbps.
RearPanel: 4 USB, 2 Serial Ports, 1 Parallel, 2 PS/2, 1 IrDA, 3 Fan connector
Dimension: 9.6' x 8.9'
Formfactor: Micro ATX

Looks like unless both ZDNET & that Russian www.fcenter.ru I posted a link to earlier are wrong this thing does have integrated Video & LAN. The ZDNET reviews gives it the following rating:

<<

Stability 5.0
Performance 4.0
Value 3.0
Ease of Setup 3.0
Overall 4.0

What do you all think?

We are not so sure if it's a GVC AR862. Even yes, since it has a AGP slot, video can be disabled, right?

Date Posted: Jul/17/2001 2:53 PM
Posted By: Flatbroke
Rank: Member

hook, thanks for the help, where did you find that this motherboard is in this bundle?
DaHan -most boards allow you to disable the onboard video, some are easy, some are not. Some you have to install the agp video card AND it's drivers to get onboard from reinstalling during the switch in some boards. There is s3tweak for those that want to squeeze the last dying electron out of the onboard video chip, ok for playing at 640x480, but not the way to go for a fast gaming rig. Who got any of the bigger coupons to work? not the 10 off one showing up as the default?

Edit: sorry, got the members names wrong

Im not positive its a GVC AR862 either, but from what I've been researching I hope it is. Looks like a stable, AMD approved board for an unbeatable price. I just called up Overstock.com and asked them to get back to me on what mobo Manufacturer and model no. are. The women said she would send the request to her computer dept and that they would get back to me as soon as the could. Only problem is that she said it could take more than a day to find the information...

I'm pretty sure there isn't any onboard vid if that pic is correct. It looks like it just has a serial, parallel, couple usb, gamepad/midi ports and the audio jacks. If it had onboard vid it would appear below the serial port.

bond007taz go here look on the right hand side, scroll down to overstock.com info. several things like that listed there. click on the one that looks most tasty. (I couldn't get the one I wanted to show up on my order page as promised tho, so backed out)

Edit, hope I don't get in trouble for helping someone get a coopon

The descriptions that are saying this system has built in video are also saying it has a built in network adator...

I'm thinking these ones are wrong and leaning toward believing the descriptions at Andara and SynMicro.

Also, it looks like GVC and BCM might be the same company...

As I was writing, just got a reply back from Andara about the "HEP" slot:

"Yes, that is suppose to be an AGP slot. Thank you for pointing out this error.

Andara Technologies"

I think I'll go ahead and order one now...

Well, I just got a call back from Andara Technologies and they said it has a BCM GT133KT board in it. But when I check the www.bcmcom.com site they say that board has 3 dimm slots, while Synmicro, Overstock & the Andara site all say it only has 2. Something odd is going on here...

Just called Overst***.com and they said they would email me as soon as they determined if this comes with a Drivers CD or as the description says "Downloadable drivers and manual" If this has the above mentioned(and I do believe it does) motherboard (GVC 862) The site gvc.com is not coming up and And***t***.com does not list Drivers neither on their site ...Edit >also this is clearly listed as KT133 with 686A SouthBridge if it is Savage based chipset it would be a KM133.... more than my 2 cents...

BCM made some fairly decent boards a couple of years ago. Haven't used them since 1998 though.

I just ordered one. Used a $15 off first time customer code from Dealcatcher. Total came to $77.95.

Micron PC has the BIOS update for this board (assuming it is the GVC 862). You can find it here.

I guess I'll found out just which motherboard this is when I get it. Went ahead and used the $15 off coupon for a total of $77.95. And yes it does include the case sides

All my current systems are Intel so I got a quick question. How much increase in performance am I gonna see with a $59 Athlon 800 as apposed to a $39 Duron 800. Worth the extra $20 bucks? Thanks...
