This old car belonged to my aunt from Texas. She bought it new in 1972, with air conditioning, power brakes, and power steering. Unfortunately, it also had a vinly top that almost cost it its life due to rust! The above picture is the car, as it was before I started restoring it. At this point I had just ripped off the old vinyl top and discovered the rust problem underneath. That's red primer on top there.
I learned to drive in this car, and only backed it off in the ditch once! :-)
I have the mechanicals in near perfect order, but before I could have the bodywork done, I wrecked my other car, and was forced to start driving this one again.
The original 307 engine ran for over 200k miles, and was still running when I pulled it in favor of a late model fuel injected one. I bought a running 1991 Camaro 305 v8, with TBI injection from a junkyard. It was running when I purchesed it, but the monkeys that pulled it bashed in the oilpan, and got SAND in the intake! I rebuilt it, and ended up with a better engine anyway...
Transmission is a Turbo Hydramatic 700R4, 4 speed OD with locking converter. I get great mileage and still have plenty of torque!
Fanally! Some time to work on my old car! It's finally painted and partially back together. The following pictures show the painted car going back together.

That's me and my mom. She's interested in it too. It used to be her car! Here, it's still in the paint booth just after ripping the masking paper off of it.

These two show the car almost all the way back together. It has yet to have a new vinyl top installed. In the upper picture you can see the grille, painted black, with the ends of the cross pieces polished aluminum. Looks pretty intimidating... Also the dent in the front bumper (hit a dog...) has been straightened as good as possible using a rubber mallet. It's good enough for this old car!
In the lower picture you can see the LED tail lights. There are 50 LED's in each tail light, and 25 in the high-mount brake light. The center light is the reverse light. It was originally a fog light. There's a black bezel that goes around it which matches those of the tail lights, but it's not installed in this picture.

Now, here's a picture I just happened to find in an old shoebox! It's me, by the old car, way back in 1983! I still have all the original trim, so it will hopefully look more or less like this when I'm done with it. I still have the granny hubcaps, but then again we all have things we don't like to talk about...
