The Internet is an area that spans the entire earth. It can be accessed almoast anywhere in the world. It uses a network of satellites and cables to connect the world together. You can live in South America and send E-Mail to someone in Tokyo, Japan. And unlike regular mail that takes weeks to reach its target E-Mail takes minutes to reach any target in the world.
The internet is turning into the new way of communication. More and more people are getting on the internet and making their own pages. The internet gains several thousand users each day and several new web sites come up each day.
Many people think there will be too many people on the internet and it will simply die because of too many people. The more people on the internet the slower it goes. The slower it goes the longer it takes E-Mail to get to it's destination and the longer it takes to download.
The internet was originally intended for the use of colleges and university's to transfer libraries of information to each other. Eventually some of the commercial services started getting involved. Suddenly there was an explosion of intrest in the internet. By 1995 commercials on TV started displaying their web addresses and E-Mail addresses at the bottom of the screen.
Believe it or not E-Mail is still the most widely used feature on the internet and it has been that way for a long time. The web is still a very large portion of the internet. By far the most useful tool to most is E-Mail.
