Just thought the general public might like to see what goes on in the background of a WebBoard site.

Forum operation
The ManagersONLY conference is only visible to managers and moderators. This is where we:
1. Stash stuff.
2. Provide instructions like these.
3. Pass warnings about individual 'contributors'.
4. Pass general messages between
moderators/selected individuals.
5. Communicate with Matt / Site Manager.
One reason it is needed is so that the /upload directory will retain the files and pictures that are uploaded. They will disappear when the message that transmitted it ages off the board. So we can stash the message that uploaded it here and it never ages off. Messages that upload Images used by personal profiles can also be stashed here. They just point the < img src= tag to ../upload/imagename
Inline image viewing is disabled for most
conferences. It WILL get abused if left on in a general forum.
The process for uploading images (to be able to link to keep them
stored on the website and so that they can be used in profiles
and in the conferences that have images enabled) is simple:
-They use the Submit conference to attach their
picture to.
-We MOVE it to the ManagersONLY conference.
-They provide a link or image tag to
../upload/{filename}.
(for an example see Coe's Profile and View
Source).
Tips and Tricks This one is a preference issue. The Ageless Conference has NNTP Disabled... if they want the tips, then visit here on line. It helps to sort of enforce copyright issues. It is a little more work to copy and distribute them from the forum than from NNTP. The discussion about the tips is open to NNTP... tease them to want to logon. Again, their submission is to the Submit Conference and we move it if we accept their post for Ageless to that one or to the appropriate conference if it is good information but not, solely in our opinion, worthy of Ageless standing.
Using was intended for us, but, I think I just made it moderated, so that they could submit for our review.
If I think of anything else, I'll add it.
Manager's caution... resist the temptation to take 'ownership' of the forum. It is a user's forum and we are just to guide.
It should be a little more volatile than the FC's own direct support forum. Realize that as long as FC does not shut that forum down, IT will get most of the traffic. This forum will, by that fact if it survives, be more negative and polarized. That is why rule #3 emphasizes KEEP IT IMPERSONAL... I myself have some loyalty to the product and will do a LOT more posting over there, after all, I want them to fix for free what I already paid for.

Here is where the new Yahoo! listing is located.
As you can see, Yahoo! created a new category, "consumer opinion," under the Franklin Covey category, as a result of this listing (along with FranklinCoveySucks.com).

Matt;
I am considering creating a complaints conference that would automatically email franklin covey tech support.
The way I would do it is to first create a "FCEMAIL" userid. Having control of said ID, I would then create a conference
"Email Franklin Covey Tech Support"
I would set the email address for the FCEMAIL id to be support@franklincovey.com which is in fact their address.
After posting an instructions post, I would then put the conference on their email notification listing. Every post to the conference would send an email to FC Tech Support.
How do you like it?
A couple of folks think that I am about to receive a gag order.
While just one opinion among many, I hope this
information was helpful...

Coe.
That's a good idea.
It might even be considered this forum's obligation to current FC users, and especially users of this forum, to keep FC 'in the loop' about what's happening on this forum.
This new feature that you propose appears to be a good way to communicate with FC regarding this forum, under the current circumstances. Especially considering the recent restrictions that you (the head Admin of this forum) have been subjected to regarding your use of FC's own forums (forums which you previously felt comfortable using to communicate this type of content).
If FC perhaps interprets a complaint notification feature, from a wide group of users of its products and services, such as the idea that you propose, as not constructive in nature, but rather aggressive and counter-productive, that sounds like a risk that is necessary, and worth taking.
Communication between this forum and FC appears to be necessary to help provide FC users, and users of this forum, with the best possible information regarding the use of FC products and services.
Hopefully FC would respond to this new communication in a constructive and productive manner, such as users of its products services might expect regarding FC's effort to improve its products and services and best serve its customers.
Matt.

If I have time I will set it up tonight.
Also, I strongly suspect that the T&Cs that they emailed me, were for ME alone - Legal maneuvering. As you know, my reply was a demand to delete all my copyrighted content off their boards. If after a reasonable time they have not done so, I have a course of action in mind that may require your lawyer to send a second demand to honor my/our copyright.
It is possible their scheme may backfire.
I really NEED to know which ISP's are accessing the board as guests!!!

I'm currently at a loss about the IP situation. I'll keep trying.
A 'reasonable amount of time' could be considered six months. How many years have you been using the FC boards?
Also, since your messages posted to the FC boards were posted by you personally (as opposed to FC posting your copyrighted material on their boards), would it really be FC's responsibility to remove the copyrighted content that belongs to you?

The majority of the post are on the ~1 board.
1) They have made it read only so I cannot
delete them.
2) My logging on to their forum could be construed
as 'agreeing' to the terms that they sent me. I have not logged
on since last Friday.
So, No I cannot. A reasonable time for
'immediately' would be about Oct 8 2000, as far as I am
concerned.

Well, that didn't work.
They have an autoresponder set to say that they
received the message.
The response gets posted...
Generating another email...
Generating another response....
Generating another email....
So, I had to moderate the conference.
Whenever you see the red check mark on a

If you have not been keeping up with O'Reilly, there is a password hole in all versions of WebBoard. The new version (4.2) that has just been posted as a free upgrade needs to be installed here. (I confirmed that I can 'steal' everyone's password with this version.)
We need it, particularly if I start authorizing
other moderators.
