A Subject Exercise
We learn by doing. Today’s class exercise is a review of things learned about the Internet and the Web. Each participating group or individual will be provided with a "Subject" to use while performing the following tasks.
1. Using your Browser Software create a "Favorites Folder" with the name of your subject.
2. Using a search site (Search Engine) of your choice find 3 non-commercial URLs with information about your subject. Add these URLs to your favorites folder you created for your subject in step 1. One of these URLs should contain a picture of your subject.
3. Using e-mail software (an e-mail application of your choice) prepare an e-mail message to send to the other class members or groups. By using both the Browser and the e-mail applications simultaneously along with the clipboard’s copy and paste features include the following items in your mail message:
a. A brief item or idea about your subject copied from one of the sites.
b. A pasted picture of your subject embedded into the message.
c. Copy and paste the 3 links to the URLs where you obtained your data.
4. Send this message to the other class members. If you know your e-mail address send a copy to yourself at your home. Be sure to identify yourself or your group and your subject. Be sure to check the "sent messages" folder to insure your message was sent.
5. Using your e-mail application set up a folder with your name to store your incoming messages. Receive the messages from the other class members and file them in this folder.
6. Visit a linked site provided by one of these incoming mail messages and add it to your favorites folder.
7. Set up a folder with your name on it on your hard drive or your desktop.
8. Using "Word Pad" write a short report using the copy and paste feature about the information contained in the Hyper-Link visited in item 6 above. Keep it very short as it is procedure we are concerned with rather than content.
9. Save this report in the folder you established in 7 above. If time permits and the printer is working, print a copy of this report.
I hope this was a learning experience for you. We always learn by doing. This is an exercise you can repeat on a daily basis until the steps become second nature to you. You can always select other subjects. You can also help a friend by inviting them to join you in this exercise. Learning can and should be fun...
Next class we will learn how to delete files, messages, folders, and favorite sites.
