Anything you see on your screen as a result of an action by your Browser can be saved in many forms in your personal files on your storage devices.

f. Common file formats
Many companies create and sell all types of Applications (Software for You and your Processor). Each application uses it's own instructions for encoding and decoding the stored information. These instructions are know as the Format or Form of the information in the file.
g. Down Loading and Up Loading Binary Files
All files, no matter what format they are encoded in, are transmitted as Binary Code over the Web portion of the Internet.
h. Using Software to manage files on a remote HOST
File Transport Software allows you to
manage files on a remote host provided you have the necessary
authorization.
For most PC users their Internet Provider issues them an account
password and provides limited file space on their server.
This is where you can store information for others to retrieve.
EXAMPLES OF ftp SOFTWARE
The following examples are from commercial software; freely shared versions are available. It is commonly known as "Ws_ftp".

This first view foil is an example of the Session Profile. This is where you establish the ftp link with your provider, in this case huntsvilleal.com. Notice all the choices you have. This is a very popular software application.

This second view foil shows how a ftp session works. The Directories of your computer's files are on the left (Local System), the right side is the directories of your (client) files on your provider's (host) computer (Remote System). Notice the two transfer arrows in the center. After you select which directory and files you wish to move and select the destination directory you execute by one of these arrows. The status of the transfer appears at the bottom of this window.
