TASK 3. SPECIAL EFFECTS

How to Edit Photos with
Microsoft Photo Editor

1. Start the Program
START--PROGRAMS--MS OFFICE--MS PHOTO EDITOR Or use the Photo Editor Icon on the Desktop.

2. Open your Picture
Choose FILE--OPEN. Next to Look in: Select a: if your picture is on a diskette.

3. Before you change your picture, it is a good idea to create a copy of the picture that you will work on. That way, if you goof up then you will still have the original picture. To do this:
Choose FILE--SAVE AS. Type in a name that is different from the original name. Click save.

4. Turn on the Ruler so you can see the exact size of your picture
Choose VIEW--RULER

5. Choose the measurement units of your ruler
Choose VIEW--MEASUREMENT UNITS--Pixels (or inches or centimeters depending on your preference)

6. Change the size of your picture (if you want). Crop your picture (Crop means cut. Use this if you want to cut off part of the picture).
Choose IMAGE--CROP. In the center of the window, under CROP MARGINS, type in the appropriate number for the left, right, top and bottom margins. You might not need to change all the margins. If you want to crop just the left side of your image, then only change the left margin.

Resize your picture (resize means don't cut anything off, but just make the whole picture smaller or larger)
Choose IMAGE--RESIZE Next, change the percentage of your picture. I wanted my picture resized 80%, so I changed the percentage to 80%.

7. To make your picture brighter or darker:
Choose IMAGE--BALANCE. Then play around with the Brightness, Contrast, and/or Gamma options.

8. Add cool effects:
I'm not going to explain the effects. You should try each of them on your own. They're really FUN to play around with!

Today's task will include use of these effects to create a graphic. You may even want to use Paint in conjunction with Photo Editor to create even more astonishing results. Use your imagination and have fun. Be able to explain what you did next time such that we can all learn from shared experiences.
