DAY 9 – June 26Palmer to AnchorageWe had a fun breakfast at the Noisy Goose in Palmer, then drove to Anchorage to return the RV. Saw a moose along the way. The return went smoothly, and we took a taxi to the Voyager Hotel where we were able to check in early. We walked to Ship Creek to watch the "combat fishing," and saw several people catch large king salmon. Tina called her friend Dean to see if he could join us, but he unexpectedly had to work. We shopped in the Ulu Factory then took their shuttle back up the hill. Along the way, we had a quick glimpse of Denali in the distance – the only time we saw the mountain except for our flight from Talkeetna.
For lunch, we had reindeer sausage dogs at a stand in front of the Federal building. The family we met in Talkeetna had recommended this particular vendor ("M.A.'s Gourmet Hot Dogs"). He had a fun attitude, and his hot dogs were delicious with plenty of topping options, including grilled onions. We walked around downtown and stopped in several shops, then let the kids play at Elderberry Park. After a rest in the hotel room, we had dinner at the Glacier Brewhouse. Tina had the salmon she'd been wanting since we arrived in Alaska. Julianna had a salmon BLT sandwich, and I had a Thai pizza. Noah was tired and only nibbled on a cheese pizza. We did a little more shopping, picked up muffins for breakfast, then went back to the room for showers and early bedtimes. Next: Day 10, Anchorage to Seward
