DAY 1 – June 18

Travel to Anchorage

In the RV

7:30am: Our neighbor drove us to the airport. We had a short flight to Atlanta for our connection there. We had about a 3-hour layover, and ate lunch at the food court. We passed the time by playing "Flying Rubberneckers" and Nintendo games.

Our flight to Anchorage was full. We were near the back in a plane that held over 300 passengers. Some of watched "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" and "The Water Horse." We especially enjoyed flying over the mountains of Alaska and seeing them peek above the clouds.

We arrived in Anchorage a little after 6pm Alaska time. The weather was clear and just a little cool, but we were ok without jackets.

We took a taxi with a Native driver to Great Alaska Holidays. We found our rental RV on their lot and spent the night there, after a walk to McDonalds for a late supper. We were surprised to see the kids being so energetic after a long flight and time zone change. They were excited to be in Alaska and to be staying in an RV.

Tina gradually lost her voice today, starting in Atlanta. By the time we got to Anchorage, she could only whisper. I know she would have liked to ask our taxi driver a hundred questions.

Next: Day 2, Anchorage to Talkeetna
