CAYMAN HOME CISTERN
A cistern is,
according to the dictionary,
an underground artificial tank for storing water.

I have had some people ask me what a cistern is and how it works. Well, here are a few pictures I took while we were cleaning it out. Since there is no city water available, I depend on a cistern to store rain water caught by the roof of the house. The water then drains down the gutters and into the cistern. During dry seasons, sometimes I have to buy water which is brought out in big 4500 gallons tank trucks. The cistern holds about 24,000 gallons of water and believe it or not, during a tropical wave or storm, the rain will just about fill it up to the top.
