Sharja
(April 6, 2000)

Oh boy oh boy. Where to start about this guy? His mother hit the ground running with overflowing personality, and Sharja has his own generous measure. This is one horse who seems he'd rather be a human. Watching his keen interest in the vet or farrier when they work on the other horses, it's almost as if he is trying to learn how to help- or interfere. Sharja reminds me of the Bedouin arabs raised in tents, he loves human interaction that much. He has almost daunting intelligence for a horse, and doesn't always react as horses I've known in the past, making him something of a challenge to figure out. He's fun! He's a pain. He's full of life and energy. I swear, he'd go to college if I let him. It's as if his eyes are trained on the 'big city' of horsedom, craving more than staid pasture life. He's been dubbed "evil" by Jim and Tessa. I always defend him, saying, "Noooooooo, Sharja's not evil. He's an angel. My sweetie pie with the bright devilish eyes who is always getting into anything he can reach with hoof and mouth. When you look into those sparkling big eyes of his, it's as if there is something not-quite-horse looking back at you, laughing.

More of Sharja's story coming soon.
