Biography

The oldest of eight children, Marilyn Hamann knew she wanted to be an artist from the time she was five years old. Her early passion for art could be seen filling pad after pad of paper. Materials with which to draw were never found far from her hand. Rather than dolls, she carried pencils! More than anything, her desire revolved around the fulfilling process of capturing the world around her with pencil and paper.

Turned loose on Milwaukee after high school, Marilyn soon found a niche as an apprentice at one of the largest department stores in the city. Quickly showing her natural talent, she began illustrating the men's fashion and furniture ads for the newspapers; an apprenticeship that evolved into full time work for twenty years. With the passage of time, photography arrived to replace the newspaper illustrations, and Marilyn opted to take her portfolio to Advertising Arts Studio. There, she once again proved her invaluable talent for detail and realism, illustrating in black and white for the next ten years. She learned and incorporated all aspects of drawing techniques to satisfy the wide variety of client needs, and soon found herself taking on color work as well. After twenty-three years of intense immersion on illustration, Marilyn moved into semi-retirement to pursue her own artistic goals. When the studio is faced with an illustration challenge not satisfied by the computer designers, Marilyn still gets the call.

Today, Marilyn spends most of her creative hours crafting both black and white and color portraiture. She paints and draws equally lifelike images of people and pets, capturing likenesses and moods with enviable ease. In addition, she has incorporated religious artwork in her schedule, saying, "I feel this is a way to "give back" to God for all the blessings he has given me."

The next time you wander through the grocery store, take the time to pick up a box of Healthy Choice Blueberry bars and remember the artist behind the mouth-watering fruit decorating the package. Marilyn's touch still graces the familiar, often where you least expect it.
