Hood Cemetery

Township 11 South, Range 1 East, Section 24

Location: Six miles North of Oneonta on Highway 75, then two and a half miles Northwest on County Road 26, then one-half mile South, Blount County, Alabama [look for the Hood Cemetery sign]

According to The Heritage of Blount County, 1999, the Hood Cemetery was originally the family burial ground for the Jones family who owned some of the land adjancent to the cemetery. The Jones Cemetery was renamed the Hood cemetery in honor of William Thompson Hood, a Captain in the Confederate Army, and a personal friend of the Jones family (page 279).
