Duffee Family Cemetery

Township 13 South, Range 2 West, Section 6

Location: On Duffee Mountain, generally on the ridge behind the Top Hat BBQ Restaurant at Blount Springs; to reach the site, we parked near the entrance of the gated sand pit, then hiked up an abandoned road running South and roughly parallel to Highway 31; the abandoned road goes to an old rock quarry; we hiked past the quarry and climbed the rocks behind and above it and walked through the woods until we found a road used by deer hunters; after a few hundred yards, the old Duffee houseplace and nearby memorial marker are a few steps off the dirt road. On the hike back, we discovered another abandoned road which seemed to be a more direct route; it goes up the mountain before you get to the quarry; it was grown up and we didn't see it near the beginning of the hike and found it very steep and washed out in places. We had a very pleasant hike, but we are in good shape; the trek is definitely not recommended for the easily winded, nor is it recommended in the summertime or during deer season.
