Oh No! We Got WWW Sign!

For the uninitiated, Mystery Science Theater 3000 is the gut-grinding, nail-biting, mind-searing adventure of a lifetime! An action-packed, thrill-a-minute, 100% pure adrenaline -

Wait - no, that's not right!

Okay, basically, MST3K is the story of a guy and his faithful robot companions who've been marooned in space by a pair of mad scientists (they're evil - EVIL!!), and later by an evil scientist's mother and her two sidekicks, and forced to watch movies. Bad movies. Hideously bad movies. In order to preserve their sanity, they mercilessly riff on and rip apart said stinkeroos. The references fly thick and fast, and don't be surprised if you don't get them all the first time. Watching the show is almost the polar opposite of being a couch potato - you have to actually think to enjoy it (a rarity these days).

Unfortunately, MST3K has again been given the axe, this time by the Sci-Fi Channel. If you're interested in attempting to try get another network to pick up the series (AMC comes to mind), visit Jamie Plummer's Save Mystery Science Theater 3000 Again! site. Also, go check out the Save Our Satellite section of Sluggy Freelance, one of the funniest comics on the web!
How do you know if you're really a MiSTie (a real fan of the show)? If you're not sure, you might be a MiSTie if you fit any of the descriptions on this list.
If you already know you're a fan, and want to join the official MST Information Society, click here to contact Ms. Barb Tebben, the Information Society poobah.

Or, to be double-plus sure you get through, simply write to this address:

Other Web Sites?!? Quick, Cambot, get me Rocket # 9!
There are dozens of websites devoted to MST3K. Trying to list them all would be sheer madness (not that I haven't been accused of that, you understand). Instead, I offer this sampler of some of the more primo sites available.
The Official MST3K Web Site, originally started to promote the MST movie, is now a must-see page. Funny Commentary! Episode Synopses! Caption This! Pale Guys & Apes!
Speaking of official sites and so forth, Joel's Gizmonic Visual Story Tool and Expo is the official website of MST co-founder Joel Robinson
Also, since the show is currently out of production, most of the guys behind it (specifically, Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, Bill Corbett, Paul Chaplin and Patrick Brantseg) got together and formed their own on-line humor magazine. Go see the unlikely-named TimmyBigHands.Com, which has a smorgasbord of reviews, essays, games and syrup ads (Mmmmmmmmm, syrup ads!).
The Satellite News is the official site of the MST3K Info Club, and is maintained by uber-fans Chris "M Sampo" Cornell and Brian Henry. It houses the MST FAQ (that's Frequently Asked Questions, for those of you who may be searching for Fresh Advacado Quiche), episode guide, This Day in MSTory, Daddy-O's Drive-In Dirt, Ward E and other highly important information.
The folks at The Mining Company seem to have a website for just about everything, and MST3K is certainly no exception.

Web Site Number 9 is the home of Michael Neylon, maintainer of the sacred Dibs List for MSTing Usenet posts. He also has an extensive collection of MiSTings, including some work from yers truly. To see more detail about some of them, check out The Incredible Melting MiSTing Guide, hosted by the ever-changing WereTorgo.

Deus Ex Machina is a site maintained by David Levine at UNC. If you're looking for a link to MST3K and can't find it, chances are, it's here

The NEW Web Site of Love is maintained by Ty "Tazer One" Warren, also chock full o' goodies.

One of the more pleasant results of Mystery Science Theater's existence has been the formation of the newsgroup rec.arts.tv.mst3k.misc. RATMM (pronounced either RAT-em or RAT-um-em) is not simply a "fanboy" newsgroup; it's a living, breathing entity (and how scary is that?!?). It's actually less a newsgroup than it is a peer group - everyone's a little wild and wacky, but at the same time, there's a lot of genuine feeling for each other. We don't always agree, but we tend to respect each other nonetheless. The folks there are the finest kind, and I'm proud to be associated with them.

Now, before I get too sentimnetal, here are some RATMMer sites (these and others are also listed in the Randomness of RATMM WebRing).

Essential to any understanding of RATMM is Jello's RATMM Regular's Page, which has selected pictures and facts about many of us. I will soon make an appearance there once I find a suitable picture (one which neither frightens small children nor attracts bat swarms).

The Lovely Laurelyn "Anagram Princess" Smith is the only RATMMer I've ever had the pleasure of meeting in real life. She rules Central Virginia (and maintains the FAQ for the #ratmm IRC channel)with a firm but fair hand.

There's Julia Sober, who's just neat, is all. *smoo*

By some cosmic quirk, Julia is also Rob Fontenot (aka Big Rob, The Midnight Rambler) We don't know how this happened, but they seem to be okay with it (although I imagaine it gets uncomfortable time-sharing the same skull). Rob also hosts RATMM's collected Wit & Wisdom (such as it is).

Jess Nevins is the official FAQ-master for the newsgroup (not the same as the show's FAQ - trust me). He's currently doing library stuff in Houston, where his interests include Golden Age comics, pulp magazines, and the lovely Alicea.

Matt Blackwell is just zis guy, y'know? He's also frequently my partner in MiSTology. He also maintains the definitive listing of Marrissa MiSTings!

What, you don't know about Her Majesty, Princess Admiral Captain Flight Commander Marrissa Amber Flores Cougar Melloncamp Picard?!? Hie thee henceforth to visit Stephen Ratliff, author of the adventures of the wackiest Kids' Crew in the (Star)Fleet! Stephen's also FAQ-Master for the Star Trek Creative Writer's newsgroup, not to mention one of the most even-tempered people on Earth.

Bryan Lambert maintains the Messy Canvas, a selection of MiSTings, Fake News, Actual Quotes, and other nifty stuff. Bryan is also a participant in the Homegame, which is basically folks MiSTing movies on TV via Internet chat. Sure, it all sounds like innocent fun - until someone gets hurt! Then it really gets to be fun!

Lori Holuta is the newsgroup's Unofficial Official Prop Diva, so if you need something like a lava lamp or a bowling trophy or a 1951 Studebaker, see her. She's also the online sci-fi columnist for Bella Online, and has a page in tribute to multiply MiSTed performer and all-time smug champion John Agar!

Jamie Plummer has assembled a gallery of the original posters and stills from many of the films that have appeared on MST3K.

Chad "Soundwave" Gould has some neat stuff, including the original critical reaction to some of the films shown on MST3K, and a whole passel of other links.

If you're not just into MST3K, but also Logan's Run, semi-serious history, and the real-life love lives of RATMM, visit the world of That Wacky Roger M. Wilcox! (That's one "M".)

There's also Christine and Antaeus and Fox and Heather and swac and Rachel and MAClear and Sarah and Randy and many many many others, many of whom have no web page for me to point to! *sob*

There are other newsgroups devoted to the subject, the most popular of which are alt.tv.mst3k, alt.fan.mst3k, alt.tv.mst3k.mistings and rec.arts.tv.mst3k.announce
Finally, a few words of wisdom from Mike about his station in life. Enjoy!
