McKennea is our newest rescue here at STRNA. He is our first senior rescue as well. McKennea is 13 years old, and quite a distinguished gentleman. He came to us because his owner, having gone into the Hospital for surgery, sadly did not return home, she died at the Hospital. So he and his other 2 paw-mates were left all alone. A friend took one, and they placed the other dog, and McKennea came to us. He is very healthy for a 13 year old, and gets around pretty well. He had been well taken care of by his previous owner, something we don't see often in rescue. McKennea has had a thorough checkup and got a good report from the Dr. He has a slight heart murmer and a good bit of arthritis, as well as a pretty nasty eye infection but other than that his is in excellent health for his age. He can see and hear very well and gets around a little stiffly, but it dosn't slow him down. He is a little bit overweight but we are working on that (he was free fed at home, and has a VERY healthy appetite here) by taking nightly walks and cutting back a bit on the amount of food that he gets. He can still navigate stairs without complaint, but to make things easier we have installed a ramp to the back door so that he can go in and out without discomfort. He is a little shy, and still somewhat disoriented from his transition, but is coming along nicer than I could have hoped. He is available for adoption immediately, though I am not holding my breath, not too many homes want a 13 year old Scottie. But he is welcome to stay at STRNA for as long as is on this earth, we are more than happy to have him. Here is a quick rundown of McKennea.
