Buster, the Allergy Dog
I
got an email from a family with a 6 month old Scottie pup, wanting some
advice on allergy problems. It seems that they had tried everything under
the sun to get rid of this dogs allergies, and he still was getting no
relief. They had spent more money than they have wanted to and there was
no end in sight. I gave them some tips and suggestions and told them to
hang in there a little longer. I also told them to get the dog allergy
tested to see what he was allergic to.
Three months later I got another email. They just couldn't
go on any longer. They had spent all they could afford to spend, pills,
shampoo, medicine, dips and quack remedies. They wanted to turn him over
to rescue. I accepted, because I had a good bit of experience with allergy
problems. I don't know if the change in climate *he came from further down
state* or if there was just something at their house that they didn't know
about but once he got here, I didn't notice him being that miserable. He
would break out in sores occasionally, but nothing major. A maintenance
dose of antibiotics was all he needed. He was the sweetest and most loving
pup you could imagine. They had kept him outside because they said he couldn't
be housebroken. I kept him inside from day one and he never had an accident
*or an on-purpose either for that matter*
I took him and my other dogs to a friend of mine's house to spend the weekend, so we could go to a dog show the next day. That morning when we woke up, it was raining and nasty and I tip toed outside to let the dogs out. In comes Buster sopping wet and jumps right up in the bed with our host and hostess and starts rubbing himself dry all over her and her husband. Well that did it, they were hooked. So now Buster lives with Madeleine and their other brother Ferguson.
