Steps To Adopt a Scottish Terrier
1. Contact the Scottish Terrier Rescue representative nearest you. You can get this information through the Scottish Terrier Club of America: Regional Rescue Coordinator Daphne and Marshall Branzell 5810 Windvale Drive Windcrest, TX 78239 Phone #: (210) 653-3723 e-mail: Scotswind@aol.com
Or visit the STCA’s web sight at: http://www.akc.org/clubs/stca
2. Complete the Application for Scottish Terrier Adoption. This comprehensive questionnaire helps to determine EXACTICALLY what you want in a rescue dog. A placement in which all the details aren’t known can end tragically, usually for the dog. Please be as thorough as possible.
3. Schedule an interview in your home, at which time your application can be discussed, and the interviewer may get a chance to see your facilities and get to know your family. The more information is known, the better the placement we are able to make.
4. A Scottish Terrier Rescue Agent will make a “match” to your needs, description, and environment. This match may take some time so please be patient with us. We want the dog to be just as comfortable with you and you are with it. Some placements take longer to make than others, such as a “wheaton Scottish Terrier female, with an assertive personality, who is less than 1 year old and loves cats” may take longer to place than “a friendly Scottie less than 5 years old.” So please bear with us as we try to make the most successful match possible.
5. You will then get to meet with your potential “Adoptee” in several different settings before the adoption is finalized. Again, we want to ensure a successful match.
6. You will then be asked to meet with the Rescue agent to discuss any final thoughts or concerns.
An adoption contract must be signed, and an adoption fee will be charged. Please note that fees vary from dog to dog, depending on the medical care it received while in rescue. You should be aware of the fee prior to the signing of the contract.
7. The Scottie will then be placed in its new and permanent home.
8. A series of follow up calls/visits will be made by your Rescue agent to ensure that the dog is adjusting well and the placement is going smoothly. This also helps to thwart any potential behavior problems before they get out of hand.
We encourage all adoptive families to stay in contact with your Rescue agent throughout the course of your Scotties life. If you ever have any problems or questions, do not hesitate to call on your Rescue agent for help and support.
