Sam the rescue Lab
In the house next door to where one of my friends
lived was a family with three boys. Earlier in the summer someone in the
local neighborhood had a litter of puppies, Lab puppies. The boys went
to see the pups for
several
days and finally brought one home, even though their Landlord forbade it.
The dog lived in the house for about the first week, then, slowly she was
moved outside. After about 6 months, they bought a trailor in another town
and began to move. The oldest boy was devistated, because it appeared that
they wouldn't be able to take Sam. As they wound up their moving, they
informed us that someone was to come by and check on the dog, and possibly
take her with them. Several days went by, and we didn't see anyone at the
house...not a soul. They had left the poor thing CHAINED in the back yard
with a bucket of water and a torn open sack of dog food. Well by the second
day, the food was gone, and her chain had turned over her bucket of water.
My friend had an old doghouse in their back yard, and it was fenced, so we brought her next door and keep her for several weeks until we could find her a home. Fortunately I ran into an old friend of mine, who was a avid hunter, and whose father had always had Labradors. He said he would come by and see her...and they hit it right off. She now has a warm and loving home, and a young child to play with. She is cared for and loved by her family.
I cannot believe that someone would just LEAVE a dog tied out somewhere with no food, or water, but sadly this type of abandonment happens every single day. Sam was just fortuante enough to be left somewhere where she was able to get help, but many dogs are left tied out in the country and eventually starve to death. Dying cold, hungry, thirsty and alone, and wondering when their masters will come back.
