What is Scottish Terrier Rescue?

Scottie Rescue is a collective group of individuals who have one thing in common...they love Scottish Terriers. They dedicate their time, money, and resources to help unwanted, abandoned or abused Scotties find new homes. Some provide foster care for the dogs, opening their hearts and homes to them until a permanent home can be found. Others help in transporting them to their new homes, if the adoptive family lives far away. Still others help with fund raising activities, grooming of the dogs, and relations with shelters and humane organizations to make sure that every unwanted Scottie has a chance to find a new home.  Some rescuers are affiliated with national breed clubs or regional breed clubs.  Some, like STRNA work as individuals dedicated to providing the best care possible for these wee lads and lasses until a permanent placement for them can be found.  But we all have one thing in common, we love these dogs, think them deserving of second chances, and try whenever possible to work together in education and fostering for the betterment of the breed.

Some rescues need extensive medical care, due to age or neglect. Most at least need a full set of vaccinations, and need to be spayed or neutered and heartworm checked before going on to a new home. But they all need lots of love and attention, and they deserve our time to help in finding them a new home.

Rescue groups around the country take in hundreds of dogs each year. Each Scottie has its own personality and mannerisms, and can't just got to any home. Rescue workers assess the personality, behavior and temperament of each individual dog and carefully match them with a family that suits their lifestyle. The last thing that any rescuer wants is for a dog to be thrown away again.  And we go to astonishing lengths to make sure that doesn't happen.

So the next time you consider adding a dog to your family, please think carefully about adding a rescue dog. You may have to wait some time before a perfect placement can be made to match your family, but these dogs are well worth the wait!
