How Can I Help? A Word About Breeding Spay/Neuter FAQ Why Do Pets End Up in Shelters? Sponsor A Scottie Norche's Pawtistic Expressions (Original Artwork by a Scottie, portion of Proceeds go to Rescue) |
Help Us Help Them In case you didn't know, there are lots of ways to help out with rescue and/or shelters. Many of which you can do in your own community. You can help to educate other people. You can spay and neuter your own pets to prevent overpopulation. You can learn how to breed responsibly or make a decision not to breed at all. You can foster animals, or sit at a table or booth once or twice a year helping to pass out information to other people about responsible pet ownership and breed rescue. You can donate to your local shelter or rescue organization, they are always in need of food, toys, towels, sheets and blankets, crates, bleach, cleaners, detergent and so on. This section is designed to let you know just how you can help from spaying and neutering your own companions to sponsoring a shelter animal, even when you aren't in a position to adopt a needy animal. Most importantly, no matter who you are, you can
always use your voice to educate people.
For every child born every day, estimates say that there are 7 puppies
and kittens born. That means that every person would have to own
7 animals to even begin to make a dent in the population
crisis. The easiest thing we can do is educate people about how to be responsible
for spaying and neutering their pets. Its a terrible
tragedy that many of these puppies and kittens are born into
this world, just to die several weeks later. Its wasteful, and senseless
and it would be very easy to put a stop to it.
If everyone would have their pets spayed and neutered, and all breeders would be
RESPONSIBLE breeders, screening families to make sure that breed is right for
them, caring about their puppies and where they go and
keeping up with owners throughout their lifetime, being there to take puppies from their
breedings back should the homes not work out or no longer be
able to support or keep them. And most importantly of all, breeding for the preservation and improvement of the breed. Not because their dog
is cute. There are lots of cute dogs dying in shelters every
day. Not because their dogs have wonderful personalities. There are thousands of dogs
with super personalities that were euthanized across the country today. Not
to line their pockets with money. There were hundreds of dogs put to sleep
today because the breeder didn't bother to make sure the owner was suited to the dog,
they sold the puppy to the first person with cold hard
cash. The only reason to breed is to improve the quality and
preserve the characteristics of that particular breed...period. And that is the only
way we are ever going to slow down the maddening spiral of death
that has become the pet over population problem that we know today.
So please, help us to help the unfortunate ones in any way that you can.
