Coverage Area

Map of our Coverage Area

Here is a map of our Coverage Area which includes Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Northern Florida (to Ocala and Daytona Beach). We limit ourselves to this area for adoptions for several reasons.  First and foremost is that should anything go wrong with an adoption for any reason, it needs to be within our means to physically go and remove the dog from the situation. What if your family was killed in a auto accident? What if your house burned down? What if you were displaced by a flood? What if you found yourself financially unable to care for the dog anymore? If something horribly tragic happened to your family, it is possible that your dog (and always "our" dog) could be euthanized in a shelter before we even knew something had happened to you or could arrange transportation to bring the dog back to us.  And it isn't our policy to "dump" our rescues on other rescue groups.  The dogs we adopt out are our responsibility for LIFE, and it isn't our policy to be casting that responsiblity off on other people. Arranging transportation for a rescue cross-country is a very difficult task, people drop out of their "leg" of the trip, sometimes its hard to find people to fill a particular route, or due to car trouble or other things, timing is off  and pickup and drop off points are missed.  While successful "runs" to transport dogs are made each and every day, its just something that we aren't comfortable with at this time.  Its just easier all around for us and our dogs to limit the scope of our Adoption area.

We are committed to the life of each animal we place, so that means if at any time that animal isn't wanted or the owner dies or what have you, the dog comes back to us to be re-homed.  No matter if the dog is two or twelve.   The second reason is that our adoption process is a "step-wise" process, requiring several meetings between the potential adopter and adoptee, in several different settings.  And again some travel is involved for both parties, so we try to limit the scope of our Adoption area.

We take in animals from this area too, though we are primarily responsible for Alabama, Mississippi has no formal Scottie Rescue. Tennessee, Georgia and Florida do and we are always willing (space being available) to help them out with needy Scottish Terriers.  And we are always willing to help with transportation, overnight stays and so on if at all possible.

If you don't live in these areas, take heart there are Scottish Terrier rescue groups in almost every state.  Take a look under "Other Resources for Adoption" on this page and find the rescue group nearest you.  Let them know you are interested.  Let them know that you would like an application, or would like to help in fostering a dog.  Let them know you are there to help.  I am more than sure they would be happy to hear from you.
