About Our Adoption Fee

Through the years while doing rescue, there have been many people that either didn't understand why we charged an adoption fee, or didn't want to pay the adoption fee at all.  Rescue honestly takes a ton of money.  There are medical screenings that have to be done, most if not all of our animals have to be spayed or neutered.  These dogs sometimes have an extended stay in foster care, and they all have to eat.  The meager adoption fee that we charge only serves to cover our medical expenses.  The rest we cover ourselves out of the kindness or our hearts.

We charge an adoption fee for several reasons.  The first being that it keeps our heads financially above water.  This pays for most of our veterinary expenses per animal.  We don't get all of our money back, and we don't expect to, we aren't in this to make money.  But we also need funds to help other dogs.

We also charge the fee so that we can help other rescues.  The more money we take in, the more able we are to provide for the medical treatments (both seen and unforeseen) that arise while these dogs are in rescue.

Charging an adoption fee also shows us that you are financially able to provide vet care for the dog that we place in your family.  If you can't afford the adoption fee, chances are that you don't have the disposable income to give you dog yearly vaccinations, heartworm medication or pay for any major accidents or injury that might happen to your new pet over its lifetime.

Lastly the adoption fee shows that this dog actually means something to you.  In paying for something, you have a vested interest in it, and therefore are less likely to just "let it go" should you hit rough waters ahead.  Studies have shown that "free" pets are given up many more times over, than pets that people actually had to pay for.

So you can see that our adoption fee serves many purposes from signifying your level of commitment to enabling us to continue our very rewarding work.  But its not about the money, its about the dogs.
