BEV the Rescue Hamster
Late one evening, about 1:30 in the morning, a friend was leaving my house for the night. We had just had a long stint of movie watching and I was tired and ready to go to bed. I left him at the door, and went to get dressed for bed...I heard his car start up, and I THOUGHT it drove away, but a few minutes later he was at my front door again.
Already under the covers, and pinned down by my 40lb mixed breed, I struggled to get up and see what was wrong. As I answered the door, his car was still running and the headlights were on. Very unusual, to say the least. I ask him what was up, and he said that there was a hamster running around in the street. "Yeah, right," I thought, and started to shut the door. He grabbed the door and said "I'm not kidding, there is a hamster running around in the road." This I HAD to see. My neighborhood is swarming with cats, and no little guy is gonna make it very far with out becoming a late night snack. Well, needless to say there he was running back and forth in the glow of the headlights, soaked to the skin. We had to scoup him up in a plastic cup (as we didn't know if we were dealing with a vicious hamster or not) and brought him in the house. What to do with him now...well...he lived in the bathtub for a few days until I could aquire a cage that he couldn't escape from.
He turned out to be a fancy hamster, you know the ones with really long hair. He suffered no ill effects from his overnight ordeal, and I searched the neighborhood over and never found who he belonged to. And was dubbed "BEV", short for Bug-eyed-varment, by one of my friends. He lived with us about 6 months before we finally found him a home. Now he's safe and sound and loved.
