AWARENESS

Ministry

AT A GLANCE

AWARENESS MINISTRY is a broad based Bible teaching ministry encompassing the basic concepts of historic Judeo Christian teaching. We declare the Lordship of Jesus Christ as the only begotten son of God, the promised Messiah and Savior of the world.

EMPHASIS

As an educational medium HERITAGE AWARENESS MINISTRY maintains a unique focus on Judaic and Christian comparative studies. Our Hebraic emphasis fosters the restoration of such Biblical worship orders as the Christ centered celebration of the Biblical Feast days (Ex 23:14, 1 Co 5:8). Feast day celebrations must not be limited to serving as mediums for worship and praise. We have discovered and aggressively teach that within these Biblical Memorial days such as Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles is expressed every spiritual lesson that is needed to bring the Church to the knowledge of the full counsel of God.

DISTINCTIVE

"Judeo Christian Restoration" is a vital concept of teaching by HERITAGE AWARENESS MINISTRY. We declare the necessity of returning to the Old Testament for the purposes of establishing New Testament truth concerning moral and ethical standards as well as Biblical church orders.

THE BOOK

We teach that the Bible is not a composite of two books nor sixty-six books with conflicting concepts and teaching. It is, rather, one book recording the acts of God under two primary covenants (Old and New Testaments). Doctrinally there is no conflict between the two. They are altogether compatible and in mutual agreement. We believe literally that "All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17, NIV).

ONE FAITH

The scriptures teach that there is only "One Lord, one faith . . ." (Eph 4:5). Unfortunately, the contemporary view of the Bible is that the Old and New Testaments represent two separate faiths namely, the "Hebrew Faith" and the "Christian Faith." It is because of this imposed distinction that Heritage Awareness Ministry seeks to restore to believers a fresh awareness of the total harmony, essence and character of both testaments. The need for such restoration has become necessary because of the gradual deletion of many Jewish elements from the teaching and practices of the first century Christian Church. It is the unchangeable nature of the God of our fathers that provides the bedrock for our confidence in this restoration effort. The demands of His expectations are clearly stated in Ec 3:15;

"That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past."

Through the prophet Malachi, God said "For I am the LORD, I change not..." (Malachi 3:6). The apostle James describes Him as the " . . . Father of lights (truths) with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning" (James 1:17). These axioms serve as an under girding for all that HERITAGE AWARENESS MINISTRY teaches.

ISRAEL

National Israel is unique among the nations in the eyes of God. Heritage Awareness Ministry endorses her prophetic geopolitical right of existence. We promote the fulfillment of the promised return of the Jews to their land, the restoration of all of the promised land back to the rightful owners, the Jewish people. We anticipate their national day of redemption (Deuteronomy 30:3).

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR

Robert Somerville is director of Heritage Awareness Ministries and also shares pastoral responsibilities at Covenant of Peace Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Robert has been in the ministry for over 25 years, speaking throughout the United States and many foreign countries. His ministry is distinct in its "Judeo - Christian Restoration" concept. He maintains that the historic drift of the church from its Hebraic moorings and root system has left the Body of Christ in need of renewal in Judaic principles to bring it more in line with the nature and character of first century Christianity.

After analyzing Somerville's writings, Dr. Edwin Harrell, author, historian and Chairman of the History Department of the University of Alabama said, "You have a unique and interesting concept that deserves to be shared with the Christian community. You have a great contribution to make to the overall understanding of Christian churches." Similarly Mr. Moishe Rosen, Chairman of Jews for Jesus ministry in California stated: "I have conversed and corresponded with Rev. Somerville and am convinced that he is not only an orthodox, charismatic Christian in the truest sense of the word, but that his understanding of grace as a doctrine is absolutely scriptural. With the scriptural understanding of grace he has added a new dimension of joy to Christian worship by incorporating those elements of celebration which are scripturally Jewish."
