| It
has come to my attention that certain virus detection/prevention software,
such as the free program AVG, among others, may detect a virus in the autorun
program on this mp3 cd. This reading is what is known as a FALSE POSITIVE.
In other words, there is NO virus in the autorun. With so many viri floating
around, the heuristics used to detect them have become very complicated
indeed. More and more legitimate programs continue to be incorrectly categorized.
In turn, AVG et. al, may prohibit you from accessing the cd; the
virus detection software essentially behaves like a virus itself!!!
Therefore, you may have to disable or even uninstall AVG et. al in order
to use the CD-Rom.
-OR- *** At your request, I can burn the mp3 files to disc without the autorun program. Be sure to let me know if you want this option in the notes section of the paypal checkout process. |

Bashful Brother Oswald cuts loose on a rendition of Good Ole Mountain Dew in an excerpt from show #10. For one so bashful, he holds nothing back on this raucous hillbilly hit tune. The quality on this segment is representative of the quality on all shows.
*Software interface is compatible only with Windows operating systems.
You're no dummy. But let's face it -- sometimes it is hard to teach OTHER computer users. Buy this CD-Rom for a relative or friend and there is no need to show them "how to make it work." With its specially designed interface, on-screen push-button controls take out the guess-work. Shows may be played by clicking their corresponding numbered buttons. A handy information panel displays each show's contents. Standard playback buttons control how the show is played. [If software does not load, your CD-Rom's autorun feature must be turned back on and the CD-Rom re-inserted.] VIEW SCREEN-SHOT
If you have a preference for another mp3 player, simply exit the software and access the disc using your default software. The mp3 files also may be played by other devices such as CD audio players and DVD players. Check your device's manual for mp3 compatibility. The MP3 files are encoded in mono at 96 kbps and 44 khz for superior sound and to ensure compatibility with as many devices as possible.
The materials on these CDs were transferred, restored, encoded, and compiled by myself. None were lifted from websites, usenet, etc. The shows were originally recorded in monaural sound, and that is how they are represented on the CD-Rom. Contrary to what some may tell you, mono sound will play through both left and right speakers.. Encoding into stereo would only double the file size, and you would gain nothing from it as both Left and Right channels would still be playing the same exact signal.
The CD-roms are burned on brand-name CD-R discs. I burn at the slowest speeds to insure readability on your playback devices. As you may know, burning at high speeds may lead to early disc failure. Also, these discs do not come with labels. Currently there is some debate and cause for concern on whether adhesive labels "eat" the dye containing the data on CD-R discs, causing them to fail. Therefore I leave it to you to label the CDs in your own fashion, and I don't charge you for a label you might not like anyway. The discs are housed in paper CD envelopes and mailed in protective bubble mailers.
Nobody told them the depression was over. In the early 1950's, when these shows were first heard on radio, many rural Southern communities were just getting electricity, or only had it a short while. Transportation was limited, with most country roads still unpaved. Those who could afford cars were well experienced at being stuck in the mud. Summer wasn't just a school holiday; it meant work in the cotton fields for many young barefoot boys and girls and their parents, White as well as Black. Times were tough, so work-breaks and recreation were extra special. After working in the hot fields, what better way to take advantage of a break than to.... ah, and here is where our opportunistic friends step in, eager to fill the void. The Cola companies were having a war for the few spare cents held by the masses. And, the Royal Crown Cola company struck a chord with an aggressive advertising campaign. Engaging Roy Acuff and His Smoky Mountain Boys for a series of 15-minute sponsored radio shows, "RC" made an impressive musical marketing appeal which is still fondly remembered today. Little information is known about these syndicated shows, however, the few existing episodes are testimony to the enthusiasm and talent of the participants.
