Paducah Sun Democrat April 3, 1941 Justin Harlan, 94, Oldest Lyon County Citizen, Dies at Home --- Kuttawa, Ky. April 3--Justin Harlan, 94, the oldest citizen of Lyon county, died ere Wednesday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.D. Maddox. He was postmaster of Kuttawa during the presidency of William McKinley. He was a native of Marshall, Ill. coming to Kuttawa in 1882. He was from a long line of Republican politicians, his father, Justin Harlan, having been a law partner of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield, Ill. Funeral services will be held at Glenn's funeral home Friday at 3:30 p.m. and burial will follow in the Kuttawa cemetary. Besides his daughter, there are the following survivors: five grandchildren, Scott Harlan of Birmingham, Al. Mrs. S. T. Collier of Kuttawa, Mrs. Dalton Woodall of Paducah, Mrs. Powell Woodall of Kuttawa, and William Harlan Maddox of Kuttawa, five great-grandchildren, Mary and Jack Harlan, Birmingham, Al. and Lucinda, Paducah. ============================================================================== The Paducah Sun Thursday, Feb. 7, 1985 Services for Mrs. Greta Harlan Maddox, 95, of 3668 Forrest Circle, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kuttawa United Methodist Church in Kuttawa. The Revs. Glenn Sowards, Allen Canterbury and Albert Evans will officiate. Burial will be at Kuttawa Cemetary. Mrs. Maddox died at 6:13 p.m. Wednesday at Western Baptist Hospital. A daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Justin (Kathryn Littlefield) Harlan, Mrs Maddox and her husband , the late William D. Maddox, owned and operated the Maddox Grocery in old Kuttawa for many years. She was a former member and steward of Kuttawa United Methodist Church. Mrs. Maddox was a member of Broadway United Methodist Church and was listed in the Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who of Methodist Women and Who's Who of Women in Republican Politics. She attended three Republican National conventions and served as district governor of the American Society of the Federation of Women's Clubs. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Hassman of Paducah; a granddaughter, Kathy Eaton of Paducah; a niece, Mrs. Dalton Woodall of Paducah; a nephew, James Griffin, of Kuttawa, and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Roth Funeral Home in Paducah from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. The body will be taken to the church where friends may call from 11 a.m. until the funeral hour on Sat. ================================================================================
