Input Scores:
Stew
Stewart said "thank you" to everyone who participated in
any way in the move that he thinks will be very good for
the club. He reflected on the origin of the move as
feedback of the membership to a survey by the Membership
Committee on why we were losing members and not bringing
in new members. There were many negatives on food and
atmosphere. This was taken to the Board, people looked
for alternatives, a good opportunity was identified, and
the Board and the membership supported the proposed
change. He says that this is a good example of how
member suggestions can prompt significant change.
No Excuse Now:
Some
of us expressed those reservations about bringing
guests/prospects to dinner because of food or
atmosphere. Stew Stewart observes that the consensus is
that this should no longer be a problem and so we need
to catch up on our hospitality.
Memory Check:
As
equipment was moved out of the Elks Lodge a question
arose as to ownership of a projector. Anyone with
knowledge of this issue should call Fred Hinckley.
Spiritual Aims:
Do
not make friends with a hot-tempered man, do not
associate with one easily angered, or you may learn his
ways and get yourself ensnared..

Last Week:
CLUB BUSINESS - REPORTS & VOTING
The
meeting last week was historic in that it was the first
time to meet at the Heritage Club instead of the Elks
Lodge, and it was the night the membership voted to make
this a permanent move and to support this with an
increase in dues.
It was also the annual
meeting for the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Foundation,
as reported below. And, it was a major meeting for the
Activities Committee, also reported below.
CLUB VOTED TO
MOVE TO HERITAGE CLUB
President Charlie Urban and
President Elect Bryan Bennett spoke briefly on the
proposed move and Bryan moved that the resolution offered by
the Board on 23 May be amended (consistent with
discussion in the last two issues of the Kiwanogram) to read:
"That the Kiwanis
Club of Huntsville move
its weekly meeting
location from the Elks Lodge to the Heritage Club of
Huntsville, effective immediately, and that our dues be raised $36 per
quarter for Regular Members and $18 per quarter for
Senior Members in order to cover the increased cost of
meals.
The amendment was
passed unanimously. there was a brief discussion
consisting of some Q&A about arrangements, and then
the resolution passed unanimously. Everyone seemed quite
pleased with the action.

REPORTED, ELECTED THREE
Foundation President
Woody Anderson presented the
Annual Report
of the Kiwanis Club of Huntsville Foundation, with Richard Elmes presenting its
finances. He then conducted the election of members of
the Foundation Board to fill three positions to replace those whose terms are expiring. Fran Hamilton, who was serving the remainder of Charles
Davis's term, was elected to a full term. Mabry
Miller-Barr, longtime club budget chair, and Charles
Jones, professional investment authority, were also
elected to full terms.
ACTIV. COMM.
REPORTED & SOLICITED INPUT
Susan Anderson, Second VP and Activities Committee
Chair, reported on the
club's service project activities for the 2004-2005 club
year on the basis of data provided to her,
discussed needs assessments and
United Way findings, and solicited membership
input on service project priorities using a printed
Annual Service Projects Survey
form. Susan sends this message:
"Thanks for the responses
to the survey Monday night. So far 47 have been
returned; some of you took them home to study and
return next week. The survey with Community Needs
Assessment results and information from
project/committee chairmen will be mailed to those of
you not at the June 13 meeting. [Or, download
from
club web site.] Just to reiterate
instructions at bottom of form: place a 1 (lowest),
2, or 3 (highest) next to each item, or leave blank as
a "no vote," which will not be counted for that item.
If you are willing to spend your time volunteering for
a listed project, add a V next to the
item as well. Write any comments on the back --
additional projects to consider, too little or too
much budgeted this year for a project, focus more
energy on a project, any thoughts that will help the
club be more beneficial to you and to the children we
serve. Please complete the survey and return at the
June 20 meeting or mail to me at 2703 High Bunker
Court, Owens Cross Roads, AL 35763. Every member's
input is important as survey results will be used for
planning and budgeting. A report to the club on
results of the survey will be made at a later
meeting." --
Susan Anderson,
Activities Committee Chairman

Announcement:
VISITOR NOTICES NEEDED WHEN
PRACTICAL
We are feeling our
way along as to what attendance will be at our new venue
and how well the kitchen can respond to unexpected
surges in attendance. Our club officers ask that we let
our Arrangements Chair know whenever practical when we
plan to have guests. Email or call
Fred
Hinckley or
Woody Anderson by Friday afternoon when you can.
They stress that they do not want this to discourage
guests or attendance when such notice is not practical,
but they do solicit help. [It occurs to the editor that
Fred might use information on any plans that are
different from normal: expecting guest(s), expecting to
be absent if usually present, or expecting to attend if
usually absent. Then he can match up pluses and minuses
to get a net change.] |
