TWO POEMS
By Ed Button, 12/17/1999No One Eats a Peach
No one eats a peach for the fuzz,
Nor an apple for its vitamin-rich peel,
So stop saying what’s good for me.
Enough about sinning and salvation, too.I no longer believe in your God because
I don’t see him in your motivations.
I no longer believe in your God because
I can’t find him in your actions.(Why should I be always
The one with rosy cheeks?)What do you mean,
I need read only this Book?
Isn’t that like looking for the lost keys
Under the one lamppost?I’d rather fumble and stumble in darkness,
Stub my toes and scrape my knees;
Hop around on one foot if need be,
Than be seen a fool in this poor light.Just now, my flashlight comes to mind.
I’ll cast it about, this way and that,
And move some shadows into
Unaccustomed positions.ebutton 12/17/1999
**************It Was A Long Day
It was a long day, just trying to see it through.
Long hours too, seen through this day.
Now comes the hour of darkness -
Night come to steal my sleep.ebutton 12/17/1999
