Spring

The seeds are planted
The gentle rains come
The garden grows quietly
With the noise of love

Over A Cup Of Coffee

Her sparkling blue eyes shining on me
Across the top of her coffee cup
Our eyes meet, she sips,
And again I am lost in her

Lost in the love of her
Lost in the want of her love
My Reason flown away and
My heart swelled to bursting

Once we made love and loved each other
Filled each other's lives with time and laughter
Once in my stupidity I hurt her
Not once but in many times and ways

Confused, hurt, disillusioned and mad
She found sanctuary in the arms of other men
Unanchored and driven to madness by my insanity
Lost, foundering, and cast about in the storms of life

But Today, Oh sweet joy!  Today I am forgiven!
Her blue eyes that were for so long so cold
That so un-man me with their heavy smashing blows -
Today, I felt her warm heart in those sparkling blue eyes

The Woman I Loved

The woman I loved likes to make up
And wear fine clothes but rarely
She loves candy and flowers, sure
But also garden plants and animals

Warm blooded animals, especially
Warm blooded men, delightfully

She loves good food, well prepared
She has many friends, some not close
She doesn't dine out often or visit much,
Hardly anyone cooks as well as she does

She has blue eyes and long dark hair,
A slight frame and delicate skin
No longer young, her spirit young still,
Her sweet ass, knock me stupid will

"calligraphy"

fingers flowing and dabbling
little lines and curves;
brushing keyboard canvas,
the artist crafts his words

energetic letters and words -
spilled heart's fire,
lurid with meaning and
potent with imaginings

set down, they melt and meld
coalesce, then blaze up
to become words vaporized,
images breathed into the body

volatility become blood-born,
perception is inflamed;
a visceral intoxication
of the mind's eye

the old secret of poetry,
hidden cousin to alchemy,
that artful spirits often be
bio-mystic calligraphy

For the Keeper of   "The Shadows"

i see dragons
and bloody swords,
somber grays
and twilight

you haunt the page,
i feel a dark mood
a lurking moon
and despair

and yet some thing,
not quite seen,
whisperings
of color

just a hint
of light
and of life

perhaps

DENIALS

I hurt today,
Having lost my friend
Not constantly,
Only when I remember

My sluggish mind
And aching heart
Have reached a
Compromise:

Absorbed by busy days
Memory closes one eye,
Knows he's in today
Just hasn't dropped by

Haven't seen him get his coffee
Or saunter down the hall
Maybe we'll do lunch
Better give him a call

That's when mind awakens
Betrays the compromise
Joel's not 'round here any more
But in his coffin lies
