What's a Stat-o-Matic? It's my space for writing about statistical matters having to do with the IRNLS. I maintain a database containing the qualifying, starting, and finishing performances of nearly every driver and team who have ever entered an IRNLS race, and I use this to look for trends, exceptional performances, and just plain freak stuff. When I find things, I write about them here.
Long-time subscribers to IRList know that I used to write Stat-o-Matic articles which I distributed on the list. I've decided to move them to here instead for several reasons: for one, some of them were a bit large for distribution through the list. Also, this new method will allow me to use HTML features like tables to format data, something that I couldn't do very well the old way. I normally write a Stat-o-Matic article after every race, although not all the time (if races are close together, I may combine them into one article). I still have copies of the old articles that I sent out to the list in 1998-99; over the next few months I will be reformatting them into HTML and posting them here.
